Dulciberry Jam to perform at library

Next month, a local group will be performing at the Hillsboro library and with them will come the melodic sounds of dulcimer music.

Dulciberry Jam is set to play on Monday, May 1 at 6 p.m.

Highland County District Library Director Jennifer West said, “We enjoy having area musicians perform at the library and are looking forward to Dulciberry Jam’s visit.”

The band has a total of five members: Laura Cole, Karen Ruebusch, Jaymie Maham, Becky Semple and Lindsay Willman.

Willman described the band as “retired ladies who fell in love with the dulcimer.” They have been playing together for two years.

It all began, she said, when three of the members bought dulcimers at the same time. Those three then discovered that another friend had a dulcimer, and it “snowballed from there,” Willman said.

Ultimately, she added, Dulciberry Jam is “there to … have a good time.”

The band plays “mainly folk music,” she said, but added that the dulcimer also “lends itself well to Celtic music.”

In addition, Dulciberry Jam also plays gospel music and some ragtime.

Willman also said that following its performance the band would be glad to give a “little lesson” in dulcimers.
