Hurley 2nd in district speech contest

McClain High School senior Kaylee N. Hurley has finished as the runner-up in the Rotary District 6690 Four-Way Test Speech Contest that was held recently in conjunction with the 2017 Rotary District Assembly in Zanesville at Zane State University/Ohio University – Zanesville.

The assembly was sponsored by District Governor for 2017-18 Shane Pyle, the 59 Rotary Clubs and 3,600 members in the district.

Fourteen high school students from Central and Southeastern Ohio who had won their local Rotary Club contest competed for honors and cash prizes. The subject of the speeches was applying the Rotary Four-Way Test in our everyday relationships with other people.

The Rotary Four-Way Test deal with the things we think, say or do – 1. Is it the truth?; 2. Is it fair to all concerned?; 3. Will it build goodwill and better friendships?; 4. Will it be beneficial to all concerned?”

Daelyn Fry won first place and a cash prize of $500. She is a junior at Chillicothe High School and represented the Chillicothe Rotary Club.

Hurley, of South Salem, won second place and a cash prize of $400. She is a senior at McClain High School in Greenfield and represented the First Capital Rotary Club of Chillicothe.

Zahra Khuhro won third place and a prize of $300. She is a freshman at Hilliard Darby High School and represented the Hilliard Rotary Club.

Fry repeated her winning speech for the attendees of the Rotary District Assembly luncheon that same day.
