The annual PFC Zachary R. Gullett Memorial Trust Dinner will be held this year on Saturday, May 20, from 4-7 p.m. at VFW Post 9094, located at 1000 W. Main St. in Hillsboro.

Named for PFC Zachary R. Gullett, who died on May 1, 2007, the memorial trust previously presented scholarships to students at Hillsboro High School. Now the memorial trust looks for ways to help the local community via law enforcement or veterans affairs.

Gullett was a 2004 graduate of Hillsboro High School, where he participated in marching band, drama, symphonic choir and football. He was also a member of the Military Police Regimental Association. In 2005, Gullett attended and graduated from Ohio University (Chillicothe) with a certificate of completion in law enforcement.

Gullett enlisted in the army on Feb. 23, 2006 and reported to Fort Leonard Wood, Mo. for One Station Unit Training (OSUT) as a military policeman. He graduated from OSUT on Aug. 8, 2006.

Gullett reported to the 984th MP Co., FT Carson, Colo., on Aug. 18, 2006.

Gullett was deployed to Iraq on Sept. 16, 2006 and was stationed in Ad Diwaniyah, Iraq. He was very proud to be a military police officer and was planning to pursue a career with the Ohio State Patrol at the conclusion of his five years of enlistment with the Army.

This year, the dinner includes two slices of pizza and a beverage for $6.
