Greenfield Library Link

Thanks for stopping by while you are perusing the paper to check out what’s going on at the Greenfield Library.

First, I would like to take this opportunity to re-introduce myself to the Greenfield patrons. After working at this library for about four years, I became the manager of the Leesburg Branch and have been hanging out there for the past 10 years. I want to thank the Leesburg community for all the support and encouragement they provided while I was there. I will truly miss the patrons and all the story time kids I encountered during that time.

Upon Margaret Magee’s retirement, I decided to take the opportunity to “come back home” and accept the manager’s position here at Greenfield. I will strive to provide a welcoming atmosphere for all our patrons and serve the community to the best of my abilities.

So feel free to stop by and say “hi” and see what we have going on this month.

Our story time is alive and well on Tuesdays at 11 a.m.

All preschoolers are welcome to join us for singing, dancing and other activities centered around a theme each week. Themes this month include Mother’s Day, Build a Better World and Baseball Fun. We will take a hiatus from our story times beginning May 30 through the month of August as we substitute our weekly summer reading programming for our story times.

Come and check out our book sale starting on Monday, May 15 in our community room. We will have many items available at great prices! Stock up on some great summer reads.

Join us for our summer reading kickoff cookout on Saturday, May 20 from 10:30 a.m.-2 p.m. Our theme this year is “Build a Better World” and we are planning a variety of activities for our summer readers this year.

The first day for all patrons to sign up is at the cookout where you can get a free picnic lunch after you register.

If you can’t make it to the kickoff, you can still sign up any day after the cookout. Please stop by the front desk for more details.

The library will be closed on Monday, May 29 in observance of Memorial Day. Please remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our country. Feel free to return items in our outdoor book drop receptacle.

Molly Jordan will be providing an ASL play group at 10:30 a.m. and a signing class for children age 2-5 at 11 a.m. on Thursdays in June and July. Stop in on Thursday, June 1 if you are interested.

Our first weekly summer reading program “Story Stew” by the Cooking Caravan from Columbus is happening on Thursday, June 1 at 12:30 p.m. Story Stew is part rebus story, part madlib, part Choose your Own Adventure, and part recipe, that takes us on a ridiculous journey teaching summer readers the essential elements of a story through the use of an enormous and ever-changing “book.”

The staff at the Greenfield Library is excited about our upcoming events and summer reading fun. We hope you will participate in some or all of our programs and pick up a few great books while you’re here. See you soon!

Sharon Aukeman is the branch manager of the Greenfield Library.
