New leaders chosen for Great Oaks campuses

Retirements and restructuring mean that all four Great Oaks Career Campuses will have new deans of instruction (principals) for the 2017-18 school year.

Laurel Oaks – Kevin Abt of Lebanon moves to the Laurel Oaks Career Campus as dean of instruction.

Abt had previously been the assistant dean at Live Oaks. He replaces Mike Thomas at Laurel Oaks, who is retiring.

Abt came to Great Oaks from Blanchester High School, where he was an agriculture education teacher and then assistant principal.

­Diamond Oaks – Andy McCool of Lebanon has been named the new dean of instruction for Diamond Oaks Career Campus.

McCool, currently assistant dean of Scarlet Oaks Career Campus, replaces Dan Rush, who will become the Scarlet Oaks dean of instruction.

McCool began his Great Oaks career in 1999 as a social studies teacher. He has a bachelor’s degree from Miami University and master’s degrees from the University of Dayton and Miami University.

Live Oaks – Longtime Live Oaks career campus administrator Joe Moon returns as dean of instruction for fall 2017.

Moon, who had spent the past two years as dean of the Scarlet Oaks Career Campus, had been assistant dean at Live Oaks from 2004 to 2015. He replaces Dan Cox at Live Oaks. Cox will move to the Great Oaks District Office.

Moon was previously a business teacher at Turpin High School. He has bachelor’s degrees from Miami University and the University of Cincinnati, and a master’s degree from UC.

Scarlet Oaks – Dan Rush has been named the new dean of instruction for Scarlet Oaks Career Campus, one of four Great Oaks Career Campuses.

Rush, currently the dean of Scarlet Oaks Career Campus, replaces Joe Moon, who becomes the Live Oaks dean of instruction.

Rush came to Great Oaks in 2005 as a social studies teacher. He has bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Miami University.
