Peace Lutheran hosting blood drive

Peace Lutheran is inviting the community to join it in an American Red Cross Blood Drive on Friday, June 16 from noon to 6 p.m. It’s another chapter in celebrating the 500th anniversary of the church reformation.

You don’t have to be Lutheran, just civic-minded with a desire to join the effort to boost the available blood reserve in the area, and if you act soon enough, get a thrill later this year.

This is a special event because the McGuire men who have hosted a couple or three in the past have agreed to move this spring’s “ticket drive” to Peace Lutheran at 231 Harry Sauner Road, Hillsboro. The Red Cross is offering a free Cedar Fair ticket to those who make an appointment and give blood from noon to 6 p.m. while the ticket supply lasts. You can get a full day pass to one of 12 Cedar Fair amusement parks including Kings Island and Cedar Point.

To schedule an appointment can call 937-403-5063 or 937-365-2080 or visit redcrossblood.org, using the sponsor code: McGuire. You can find this blood drive online by entering the 45133 zip code and then clicking on the map’s blood drive location icon to sign in.

You must be at least 16 or older to give blood, and you’ll need your ID. If giving blood is your main thing you can still give your pass away to your favorite thrill seeker. The American Red Cross encourages you to register as they can accept only so many donors at a time. However, walk-ins are welcome. Also if you have some doubts as to whether you can give because of medications or other issues, call the donor suitability number at 866-236-3276. The line is available 24 hours a day to find out if you can give.

Peace Lutheran continues to celebrate Martin Luther’s action 500 years ago to “take a stand” and interpret as best he could what the scriptures were saying to him and Christians everywhere. This blood drive holds to that tradition of caring for your neighbor and community. The Red Cross will direct the blood drawing efforts, but you’ll find other health conscience things of note to take in too.

The church meets at 9 a.m. Sunday and also has Wiennie Wednesdays after the free movies at Star Cinema.
