Curtis Lane dedication

A Curtis Lane dedication will be held at Curtis Lane (formerly Baker Street) at 7 p.m. Thursday, July 27 honoring Imogene Louise Curtis, a community crusader, activist and leader of the Lincoln School marches in Hillsboro. It will also honor all those who marched with her in their two-year non-violent battle. Everyone is welcome. After the dedication there will be refreshments and a viewing of the Lincoln School film at the Highland House Museum in Hillsboro.

Korean Vets Brunch, Roundtable

A Korean War Veterans’ Brunch and Roundtable will be held from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. Thursday, July 27 at the Hi-TEC Center Conference Rooms, 1575 N. High St., Hillsboro. Discussion will feature the Chillicothe VA Medical Center Acting Medical Director Mark Murdock and others. The discusion is open to all veterans and veteran caregivers/family members. RSVP for lunch by July 21 by calling 937-393-8686.

Summer Tractor Show

The Paint Valley Antique Machinery Club Summer Tractor Show will be held July 28-29 at Paint Valley Hardware. Admission is free and there will be food games and a pedal tractor pull. If you want to show equipment call Jim Forsythe at 740-634-2162.

Soup’s On free meal

The Soup’s On Free Meal will be held Saturday, July 29 at St. Mary’s Episcopal Church, corner of North High and North streets, Hillsboro. Prayer and Praise is at 4:30 p.m. and dinner is served from 5-6 p.m. The menu will be spaghetti and meat balls, tossed salad, garlic bread, assorted drinks and desserts.

Humane Society benefit

Advance America on Harry Sauner Road in Hillsboro will hold a pet adoption day, pet supply drive, and bake sale from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, July 29. All the proceeds will go to the Highland County Humane Society. Items needed include Pedigree dog food, cat food, canned food, dog toys, cat toys, dog treats, bleach, Clorox or Lysol wipes, mops, brooms, dust pans, blankets, sheets, laundry detergent and dish soap. If anyone would like to donate call 937-393-4262. Donations can be picked up.

Hillsboro Freewill homecoming

The Hillsboro Freewill Baptist Church will hold its annual homecoming services Sunday, July 30. Special singers will be Family Heritage from the Hocking Hills community. The group uses a variety of instruments and more than one genre of music to convey the message of Christ. It will be singing at 10:30 a.m. and 2 p.m. A carry-in lunch will be held after the morning service and there will be no evening services. All are welcome.

Fruitdale UNM dedication

The Fruitdale United Methodist Church will have a dedication of the new addition on the church and a Blessing of the Bikes on Sunday, July 30. It all starts at 9:45 a.m. There will be entertainment featuring the Mountain Railway Band, eating at noon (free will donation) and them a motorcycle bike ride (rain or shine). All past preachers for the church are invited to attend. The church is located on SR 41, south of Greenfield.

Family Fun & Movie Nights

Leesburg United Methodist Church will presents two Family Fun & Movie Nights in August. The first is Friday, Aug. 4 featuring “The Secret Life of Pets” and the second is Friday, Aug. 11 featuring “Lego Batman.” Activities will begin at 7:45 p.m. for each movie on the grounds of LUMC, 117 Church St., Leesburg. Bring your own blankets or lawn chairs. Both movies begin at sunset. All minors must be accompanied by a parent/adult for the evening. There will be fun activities, hot dogs, popcorn, sodas, cookies and a free drawing for a movie package for a family of four at Star Cinemas in Hillsboro.

Everything Under the Sun Sale

The Lynchburg-Clay FFA Chapter will host an Everything Under the Sun Sale on Aug. 4-5 from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Lynchburg-Clay High School. The chapter is currently taking applications for vendors. All vendors are welcome. If you are interested in renting a booth, go to http://www.lynchclay.k12.oh.us/ for a booth rental form. Indoor and outdoor booths will be available. There is free admission into the sale and the FFA will have concessions.

Fairfield special meeting

The Fairfield Local Schools Board of Education will hold a special meeting at 1 p.m. Friday, Aug. 11 in the District Office Conference Room for the purpose of opening bids for construction of the service/concession building at the track/soccer complex. The public is invited to attend.
