Brush and Palette 60th show winners announced

The Brush and Palette Art Guild has announced its 60th anniversary show winning entries awarded by Jason Clary, a Cincinnati artist and educator.

The theme for this year’s show was “Historic Highland County” and the guild would like to thank the Highland County Historical Society for its advertising and allowing some of the artists to participate in the 2017 House Tour.

Top prize for the theme category was won by Connie Barrett with her watercolor painting of the 1891-1895 Sweeny Lane post office, accompanied by framed historical information. Second place was “Churches” by Bill Shaffer. Third place was “The Jenkins House” by Kim Giordano and honorable mention went to Melissa Bourne for “Antique Store.”

The Julia Barthel Special Merit Award for a professional watercolor floral “Iris” was won by Kim Giordano. The Violet Linton Special Merit Award for a non-professional oil landscape “Peaceful Meadow” went to Mary Keininger.

Best of Show Professional winners for 2017 were: “Trillium II” by Sandra Pence and Reserve Best of Show was “Fall Rain” by Connie Barrett.

Non-Professional winners were Best of Show were “Tire Swing” by Melissa Bourne and Reserve Best of Show was “Touching Influences” by Sharon Eley.

Professional Best of Division awards were: Oil – Sandra Pence for “Lunch” Acrylic; and Gary Schultheis for “Winter Barn;” Watercolor – Connie Barrett for “Fall Rain;” Pastel – Hal Harvey for “Table Prize;” Charcoal/Graphite – Hal Harvey for “Siblings;” Ink – Mary Braun for “Night;” Color Pencil – Sandra Pence for “Trillium;” and Open/Mixed Media – “Nature’s Way” by Sandra Pence.

Non-Professional Best of Division were: Oil – Mary Keininger for “Peaceful Meadow;” Acrylic – Melissa Bourne for “Tire Swing;” Watercolor – Jim Giesting “My Comfort Place;” Pastel – Mary Keininger for “No Swimming;” Charcoal/Graphite – Cheryl Collier for “Marshall Church;” Ink – Deanna Flinn for “Under the Sea;” Color Pencil – Jessie Reno for “Lake View;” and Open/Mixed Media – Sharon Eley “Touching Influences.”

The People’s Choice Award elected by visitors to the show was won by Donna Schwartz for the wonderful color pencil detail in “My Feather Bed.”
