Ringing in a new school year

0

The kindergarten students at Greenfield Elementary rang the victory bell Tuesday to mark the beginning of their first school year. Kindergartners were assembled Tuesday morning the occasion. All three kindergarten classes had a chance to pull the rope and watch the bell swing back and forth in the tower. It was a great way to celebrate the first week of their formal education. For many years, the victory bell rang once every morning, calling children from all over the city to come to school. It has been used to celebrate athletic victories and it rings out at graduation time as well. At the end of the 2017-18 school year, the fourth grade students will continue this tradition by ringing the victory bell, signifying their last day in school as elementary students. In the photo, teacher Cathy Rivas and one of the kindergarten students are shown ringing in the new year.
