Two Hillsboro Lions Club members recently received recognition as Melvin Jones Fellows. This recognition represents their dedication to humanitarian service to the highest degree. Gary Ames, the Hillsboro Lions Club President Lion in 2017 and 2018, and twice past president Lion David Lowell were presented with the recognition by the Hillsboro Lions for their work in the Hillsboro community. The Hillsboro Lions will be accepting the used solar glasses in its glasses drop box. Any organization that would want to collect them for the Lions can deliver them to a meeting. The glasses are being collected to be sent to Astronomers Without Borders. They will take them to Africa to be used by students to view the solar eclipse over Africa in 2018. This is a STEM project for them. The Hillsboro Lions meet the second and fourth Thursday of each month at the Hillsboro Elks. Dinner starts at 6 p.m. with a meeting following the meal. Anyone with an interest in benefiting the community is welcome to attend a meeting.
