The Hillsboro FFA soil judging team went to the County Judging Contest held recently at the Highland County Fair. The Hillsboro FFA had two teams that attended, which were the Urban Team and the Ag Team.

On the Urban Team the participants were Loraleigh Mayhan, Alora Brown, Ashlie Hillyer and Haley Hughes. The Ag team consisted of Brennen Priest, Lana Grover, Grant Crum, Kaitlin Fannin and Bryce Stanley.

On Oct. 2, both teams went to compete at the District 9 Soils Competition held at Monroe High School. The Urban team got 10th place out of 16 teams and did not qualify for state. This was also the first year for all the members to compete in soil judging and they did a excellent job this year. The Ag team placed fifth overall out of 23 teams and qualified for state. Brennen Priest did a outstanding job by placing sixth out of 111 kids.

On Oct. 14, the Ag Soil Judging team went to State Soils which was held at The Ohio State Farm in London. The Ag Team was 29th out of 46 teams. It has been about four years since a Hillsboro soil judging team has qualified for state.

“This year was a great year with my teammates and this is one I’ll never forget,” Priest said.
