What’s going on at the Greenfield Library?

It’s been a little over a year since my return to the Greenfield Library. Time flies when you’re having fun.

We have made a few changes in the past year to keep things fresh and relevant and we hope you approve. Don’t hesitate to stop in and chat with the staff and me with suggestions and comments that you feel will help to make our library even better.

The library will be closed until approximately 1 p.m. on Tuesday, May 1 for a branchwide staff in-service. You may want to call ahead just to be sure we are here if you plan on stopping by close to 1 p.m. Please feel free to use the book drop if you need to return items.

Our story time is alive and well on Tuesdays at 11 a.m. All preschoolers are welcome to join us for singing, dancing and other activities centered around a theme each week. Due to the in-service on May 1, there will be no story time on that Tuesday. Otherwise, our themes for the remainder of the month are: Mother’s Day, Summer Reading with Pete the Cat and Let’s Go Camping.

We continue to host the senior exercise class on Wednesdays from 10:30-11:30 a.m. Come and join the group for a fun-filled hour that helps you keep fit.

Our summer reading kickoff is on Saturday, May 19 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Our theme this year is “Libraries Rock!” and we are planning a variety of music-themed activities for our summer readers this year. If you attend the kickoff, you will be able to sign up for the summer reading program for your age group (kids, teens or adult) and then groove out to tunes from the ’50s and ’60s at our Greenfield Library old-fashioned soda fountain and make yourself an ice cream sundae. If you are unable to join us on May 19, you can sign up for summer reading any day afterward that we are open.

The library will be closed on Monday, May 28 in observance of Memorial Day. Please remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our country. We ask you to return items in our outdoor book drop receptacle while we are closed.

Every Tuesday during June and July we will be hosting a fun-filled program for kids that will usually have a music theme. Our first program is Mister Pickles is Rockin’ the Library on Tuesday, June 5 at 11 a.m. We will have a schedule of all our summer reading programs and events at the front desk on the day of our kickoff so make sure you stop by on or after May 19.

The staff at the Greenfield Library is excited about our upcoming events and summer reading fun. We hope you will participate in some or all of our programs and pick up a few great books while you’re here. See you soon.
