The Southern State Community Band will perform its 20th anniversary Veterans Day concert 3 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 28, in the Edward K. Daniels Auditorium on the Southern State Community College Central Campus, 100 Hobart Drive, Hillsboro.

The concert will include a variety of patriotic pieces, a special tribute to World War II veterans, and a feature performance by the Paint Valley Junior ROTC Drill Team under the direction of Master Sergeant John Wilson.

The music for this Veterans Day program is made possible through the support of the Pence Patron of the Arts Fund within the Southern State Community College Foundation.

Since its beginnings in 1998, the Southern State Community Band has performed a Veterans Day concert every year, with its first one at the Highland County Fairgrounds. Founding member Corrine Erickson was a member of the initial United Stated Women of the Air Force (WAF) Band.

Under the direction of SSCC faculty member Dr. Brian Siemers, the band includes both students and community members. There are no auditions, and anyone interested may join the band. Rehearsals are held 6:30 p.m. Thursdays in the auditorium.

For more information, contact Brian Siemers at [email protected] or 800-628-7722, ext. 2634.
