Highland Co. Board of Elections

The Highland County Board of Elections will hold its next meeting scheduled at 8 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 19 in the board office to certify candidate petitions/resolutions. The public is welcome. The board office will be closed Monday, Dec. 23 through Jan. 1 so that staff may enjoy the holiday season with their families. Our office will reopen at 8:30 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 2.

Knights of Pythias Christmas

Knights of Pythias Lodge 696, 1879 SR 73, Belfast, will host its 34th annual Christmas Party Saturday, Dec. 21. Festivities begin at 5:45 p.m. and dinner at 6:15 p.m. (bring a covered dish). There will be drawings, door prizes, a 50/50 drawing, food, prizes and games. ‘The Birth of a Savior’

The Marshall United Methodist Church will present “The Birth of a Savoir – A Live Nativity Parent” at 7 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 22 at the farm of John and Kristi Grover, 5271 Slate Hill Rd., Hillsboro. For more information call 937-466-2882.

Music at St. Mary’s

The musicians of St. Mary’s Episcopal Church will present a program of Christmas music at 3 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 22 as part of the Music At St. Mary’s Concert Series. Music At St. Mary’s concerts are presented without admission cost; however, donations are gratefully accepted.

Special council meeting

There will be a special council meeting at 7 p.m. Monday, Dec. 23 130 Homestead Ave. The subject of the meeting will be the City of Hillsboro 2020 Budget and Resolution 19-44. The meeting is open to the public.

North Joint Fire District

The Highland County North Joint Fire and Ambulance District Board of Trustees will meet at 6:30 p.m. Monday, Dec. 23 at 200 South St., Leesburg. For further information, contact Roger Grimsley, fiscal officer, at 937-780-6909 ext. 103.

Revolving Loan Fund

The Hillsboro Revolving Loan Fund Committee regularly scheduled meeting for Dec. 23 has been rescheduled for Friday, Dec. 20 at 10:30 a.m. at 130 N. High St. in the city conference room. This meeting is open to the public

Buford Candlelight Service

The annual Buford Church of Christ Christmas Eve Candlelight Service will be held from 5:30 to 6 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 24. The church building is located at 2457 SR 138, Buford. Everyone is invited to spend the evening singing tradition carols.

Food for All Mobile Pantry

Please note the change of weekday due to the Christmas holiday. On Friday, Dec. 27, there will be a Food for All Mobile Pantry at the Greater Life Assembly Church, 12145 North Shore Dr. in Hillsboro. TEFAP eligibility income requirements of 200 percent at or above the federal poverty line apply. Food will be distributed from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. Please bring a photo ID and a recent piece of mail with your current address. Also, you will need a basket, bags or boxes to carry your food. Fairfield School Board

The Fairfield Local School Board of Education will hold its annual organizational meeting, budget hearing and regular meeting in the on Jan. 14. The organizational meeting is at 5 p.m., the budger hearing at 5:15 p.m. and the regular meeting at 6 p.m. The public is invited.

Mobile Mammography Unit

UC Health’s Mobile Unit will be at the City of Hillsboro Tuesday, Jan. 14 from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. This is located at 108 Governor Trimble Pl. in Hillsboro. Mammograms are recommended for women 40 and over and are typically covered by insurance at 100 percent. If women do not have insurance, they may qualify for a no cost mammogram.
