Longtime Hillsboro City Schools teacher Jerry Walker, left, was honored this week after the last meeting of his four-year term on the Hillsboro Board of Education. Board and community members wished Walker well including board member Sam Barnhouse, who said he has served the Hillsboro schools with Walker since 1976. “Having six grandchildren in Illinois is a pretty strong call so it’s kind of a one-year mission out there,” said Walker, a Hillsboro High School graduate. “I’ll still own a home in Hillsboro so I really don’t know how long I’ll be out there. You never know, I might be back in Hillsboro.” Walker is being presented with a plaque by board president Terry Britton.
