Two people were transported to a hospital following a two-vehicle crash Friday afternoon on North High Street in Hillsboro.

The Hillsboro Police Department said that George Shaffer, 88, of New Vienna, was driving a Chevy Spark around 1 p.m. when he drove through a red onto North High Street from East Collins Avenue. A Chevy Silverado driven Clyde Foxx, 65, of Hillsboro, was northbound on North High Street at the same time and struck the driver’s side of the Shaffer’s vehicle.

The two vehicles got tangled together and the pickup truck dragged the car for several feet before the truck hit a utility pole off the right side of the road and came to rest, according to the police department.

A police department spokesperson said two boys that were riding in the back of the pickup truck were not injured.

Shaffer was injured and was transported to Miami Valley Hospital. An officer said Shaffer’s wife was transported to the hospital with Shaffer, but the extent of their injuries were not known.

The wife’s name was not immediately available.

Both vehicles were totaled, the police department said.

The accident remains under investigation.
