5K to benefit memorial scholarship

An annual 5K that raises money for a memorial scholarship fund will be run, or walked, on Saturday at Felson Park in Greenfield.

It is the ninth year for the Run for Hannah, with proceeds going to the Hannah Marie Losey Scholarship Fund.

Hannah Losey passed away in 2007. Since then the Losey family has raised money for a scholarship fund in her name with events like the annual 5K and a yearly softball camp.

“When Hannah passed away it was the community that got behind us and kept us going,” her father, John Losey, said. And it was especially Hannah’s classmates that made sure to include the Loseys in their class activities.

A scholarship fund, Losey said, seemed like the appropriate way to give back and to honor the memory of Hannah.

“We just appreciate all the support from the community,” he said.

He said that through the years, the fund has provided more than $57,000 to McClain seniors through 79 scholarships.

The 5K will be Saturday, Oct. 22 with registration beginning at 9 a.m. at the bike path at Felson Park. The race begins at 10 a.m.

The entry fee is $20 and includes a T-shirt. The deadline to preregister and receive a T-shirt for the race is Oct. 21, but Losey said people can bring their registration forms to the race, they just may not get their T-shirt until a later time.

Registration forms can be picked up at Jett’s Pro Embroidery, 1060 Jefferson St., Greenfield, or at NCB Bank in uptown Hillsboro. Forms can be returned to Jett’s Pro Embroidery by Oct. 21.
