Lynchburg Lions candy sale

The Lynchburg Lions Club is selling bulk candy through December at the Southern Hills Community Bank and the Beechstreet Candleworks in Lynchburg. Eighteen different varieties are on sale. Stop in during regular business hours and purchase high quality candy at reasonable prices.

Fill the Truck

The fifth annual Fill the Truck event for the Highland County Community Action Organization, Inc. will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 3 at Walmart in Hillsboro. Last year Fill the Truck collected over 100 toys and $900 in cash donations. In coordination with other agencies in the county, all donations were properly distributed to families in need. In order to continue this progress and broaden its reach, support is needed. To donate toys and clothes, all items must be new with original packaging and tags. Donation boxes are located at each entrance of Walmart from Nov. 28 until Dec. 22.

Fair steer tagging

Highland County Junior Fair exhibitors planning to take a steer to the Highland County Fair in 2017 are reminded that the steer tagging and weigh-in will be Saturday, Dec. 3 from 8-10 a.m. at Union Stockyards in Hillsboro. This will be the only day steers can be tagged for the 2017 Highland County Fair. This year hair samples will be takenfor DNA testing. County bred and born exhibitors will need birth date of steers, and breeder’s name, address and phone number. Tags cost $2 per animal. In case of extremely bad weather, listen to Buckeye Country after 6 a.m. the morning of the weigh-in as well as watching the Junior Fair Board Facebook page. Christmas in Marshall

The Marshall School Committee will host Christmas in Marshall from 4-8 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 3 at the Marshall School Gymnasium. There will be a freewill donation meal with a menu of turkey and dressing, homemade noodles, mashed potatoes, and all the trimmings. Santa and Mrs. Claus will be present. Breakfast with Santa

Breakfast with Santa, the Grinch and Frozen-like Friends is Saturday, Dec. 3 at the Highland County Senior Citizens Center. Tickets are $5 and $3 and include a picture with Santa, breakfast, decorating a life-size ginger bread house and more. Advance ticket holders don’t wait in the admission line. Mowrystown Holiday Craft Fair

The Mowrystown Holiday Craft Fair & Bazaar will be held at Whiteoak High School from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 3. Lunch will be available. The menu will include soups, sandwiches, chips, candy, pies, cakes and drinks. Santa will make an appearance following the holiday parade, which will begin at Crop Production (West Main Street) at 1 p.m. Cookies and hot chocolate will be served while pictures with Santa are being taken. Hillsboro VFW fish fry

Hillsboro VFW Post 9094 will hold an all-you-can-eat fish fry from 4:30 to 7 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 3. It is open to the public.

Lynchburg Lions breakfast

The Lynchburg Lions Club will have its monthly pancake and sausage breakfast from 8-11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 3 at the Lynchburg Lions Club Gun Club Building on Sharpsville Road in Lynchburg. It will feature an all-you-can-eat pancake and sausage breakfast plus other items such as sausage gravy and biscuits. The public is invited to come and enjoy the meal.

St. Mary Holiday Bazaar

The St. Mary Catholic School Holiday Bazaar will be held from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 3. there will be homemade crafts and vendors set up to help with great ideas. The youth group will be selling food. Call 937-840-9932 with questions or to reserve a booth.

Fruitdale dinner, auction

The Fruitdale United Methodist Church, located on SR 41 south of Greenfield, is having a bean soup with cornbread and homemade vegetable soup dinner at 4:30 p.m. Saturday Dec. 3. There will also be a silent auction to raise money toward building onto the back of the church.

Immunization clinic

A clinic for immunizations only will be held 9-11:30 a.m. and 2-6 p.m. Monday, Dec. 5 at the Highland County Health Department, 1487 N. High St., Suite 400, Hillsboro.

Democrat Dinner and Auction

The Highland County Democratic Women and the Highland County Democratic Central and Executive Committee will hold their annual joint carry-in Christmas Dinner and Auction on Tuesday, Dec. 6, 2016 at 6:30 p.m. at the County Administration Building. Meat, drinks and table service will be provided. Bring a covered dish and an auction item. The public is invited.

RCPP and Quail Focus

An RCPP and Quail Focus meeting will be held for landowners in the Clear Creek Watershed on Dec. 6 at the Hi-Tec Center in Hillsboro. The meeting will begin with a meal at 6 p.m. for those who register by Dec. 2. Learn how to apply for financial assistance to implement conservation/wildlife practices. Care-A-Van schedule

The Care-A-Van Health Assessment Clinic, a cooperative service brought to you by the Highland County Health Department and Highland District Hospital, will be at the Walmart parking lot in Hillsboro from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 6.

St. Paul bake sale

St. Paul Lutheran Church, corner of Pearl Street and Eastern Avenue in Lynchburg, will hold a bake sale from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Dec. 9 and 10. There will be pies, cakes, cookies, candy, dinner rolls, cheese balls, chicken and noodles, Home Town Honey, gifts and more.

Legion Family Christmas

The George A. Lambert American Legion of Sardinia will hold its annual Legion Family Christmas dinner at 5 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 10. The auxiliary will provide the meat, drinks and table service. Each family is to bring a side dish or dessert. Also, bring a wrapped gift for an auction. The proceeds will go to the AGAPE Church Council to help the area residents who are in need of emergency assistance. Santa will make a visit with a treat for children and an opportunity for the parents to get a picture of the children with Santa. This annual event is open to the legion/auxiliary members and their families. Prospective legion and auxiliary members are also welcome to come. RSVP by Monday, Dec. 5 by calling 937-442-4704.

Knights of Pythias Christmas party

The Knights of Pythias Lodge in Belfast will hold a Christmas party Saturday, Dec. 17. Festivities begin at 5:45 p.m. and dinner at 6:15 p.m. Those attending should bring a covered dish. There will be drawings, door prizes, a 50/50 drawing, food, prizes and games. Santa will arrive at 7:30 p.m. Gifts are donated by local merchants, friends and families. Humane Society fundraiser

The Highland County Humane Society’s next fundraiser will be held from 2-6 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 18 at Upper Cuts Salon, 401 W. Main St., Hillsboro. The Art for Animals exhibit is a way to bring the community together to raise money and awareness to adopt a pet from the local shelter. Proceeds will go directly to Highland County Humane Society in Hillsboro. This exhibit will give a chance for local artist to share their talent. For artists that want to enter there is a $15 fee for two pieces or art and $25 fee for three pieces. The fee will go to the shelter. Any artwork the artist sells, the artist keeps. The deadline for art submissions is Dec. 12. Interested artists can contact Katie DelRae Chain through a Facebook private message or email [email protected]. Parking for the exhibit will be available in front of the salon and across the street at the school board parking lot. There will also be a raffle, hors d’oeuvres and punch and coffee. Donations of dog food, cat food, toys, etc. will be accepted.
