State Route 247 will be closed for an extended period Thursday evening following a fatal accident involving a pedestrian around 6:12 p.m.

Branden Jackman, Paint Creek Joint EMS/Fire District public information officer, said a call reporting the accident that took place just south of Hillsboro came in to the fire station at 6:12 p.m.

Jackman said the Highland County Sheriff’s Office received calls of a possibly disoriented person walking down the center of the road, then a handful of minutes later came a report stating that a pedestrian had been struck.

Jackman said the pedestrian’s injuries were not survivable and that the Highland County coroner was summoned to the scene.

He said the Ohio State State Highway Patrol was on the scene and that SR 247 would be closed in the 6000 block area for an extended period of time.
