No action yet on Paint Creek fire chief

The fate of the chief of the Paint Creek Joint EMS/Fire District remains in limbo following a special meeting Tuesday of the Paint Creek board.

Dan Mathews, president of the board, said Wednesday that board members met in executive session Tuesday evening. He said chief Bradley George was not present.

“We took no action,” said Mathews. He said it was “strictly the board” participating in Tuesday’s executive session. George had attended last week’s meeting and met with board members.

The board will meet in regular session again next Tuesday, but Mathews said it might be “three or four weeks” before any action is taken.

George was placed on administrative leave for “personnel reasons” in early July. He has been chief of the Paint Creek district since its formation five years ago.

George had served 18 years with the Greenfield Fire Department before leaving in October of 2007 to work for the state fire marshal’s office. When voters approved the formation of the fire district in 2009, he returned home to serve as Paint Creek’s chief beginning January 2010.

Since then, Paint Creek has expanded to become the dominant fire department in Highland County, and one of the largest fire districts in Ohio.
