Firefighters with Paint Creek Joint EMS/Fire District and Southern Highland Volunteer Fire Department responded to a field fire on Bottom Lane near New Market Thursday afternoon that burned about five acres of grass. Paint Creek public information officer Branden Jackman told The Times-Gazette on the scene that crews responded around 1:30 p.m. and doused the fire in about half an hour. Jackman said the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency has issued a burn ban prohibiting open fires between 6 a.m. and 6 p.m. The ban is effective until the end of May.
