Ladies Day Out: Pampering for one afternoon

The latest new community event at the Highland County Senior Center – Ladies Day Out Fashion Show Catwalk For A Cause – will be held on the afternoon of Wednesday, July 12.

“We want to offer local women a different experience and something unique to do in their afternoon,” said Mechell Frost, executive director of the center. “There will be special lighting and decorations and the center is not going to look at all like it normally does. It’s just going to be a unique experience and we thought it would be fun to have special afternoon for ladies.”

The centerpiece of the layout will be a 32-foot-long elevated catwalk where seniors will model various lines of clothing provided by Peebles Department Store in Hillsboro. There will also be a 4-year-old and 6-year-old girl modeling children’s apparel.

Cosmetic vendors Clinque, Avon, Mary Kay and possibly others will be on hand with products to sample, Great Clips will be doing hair styling and Maher Medical Massage will offer mini massages.

All those in attendance will receive a goodie bag from the vendors, there will be a “cheese style” luncheon with hot and cold teas and finger food, and there will be musical entertainment and a contest.

Dubbed Mannequin Madness, the contest will feature sets of five mannequins that contestants will have to choose how to dress and accessorize. The contestants will have three to five minutes to decorate their mannequin and there will be prizes for the winners.

Local business are being offered the chance to set up and advertise their products at the event and will also be able to compete in Mannequin Madness.

The show will last around two hours and the cost is $15 per person. Tickets can be picked up the senior center from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday or online at highlandseniors.com.

All proceeds go toward the operation of the center.

Frost said that due to the way the center will be set up, just 134 tickets will be available and that they will be sold on a first-come, first-served basis.

“Join us for a runway fashion show with a tea party style luncheon and visit local cosmetic, jewelry and salon vendors all at the event. Try an eye shadow or lip stick, get your hair styled or have a mini massage,” Frost said. “We think women will enjoy being a little pampered in the afternoon.”
