Paul W. Pence Jr., chairman and CEO of Merchants National Bank, this week announced the retirement of Bonnie Barton. Bonnie’s retirement ceremony will be held at the Main Office of Merchants National Bank on Thursday, Aug. 3, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Bonnie started at the bank on June 1, 1973 as a bookkeeper/teller, then moving into supervising the bookkeeping department. In August 1978, she moved to the North High Office and continued to wok as a teller. In the fall of 1979, Bonnie was given the title of Intenal Auditor and strived to keep the bank in compliance with the changing regulations in the banking industy.
In January 1983, Bonnie received the title of Administrative Assistant and worked with deposit customers of the bank with checking, savings, certificate of deposits and IRA accounts. She was also named Security Officer during her tenure at the bank.
Bonnie graduated from Hillsboro High School in 1969. Her previous employers included Dr. Roy Rogers, DDS, Dr. Ralph Williams, optometrist, and White-Haines Optical Company, where she worked in the customer service areas. Bonnie also attended several banking classes from Notre Dame, Southern State and the Ohio School of Banking.
She has two sons, Brett of Hillsboro (married to Dr. Tausha Barton), and Dr. Jason Barton of Delaware, Ohio (married to LeeAnne Barton). Her family includes one granddaughter, Riley, and four grandsons, Dylan, Logan, Clay and Blake. After she retires, Bonnie plans to spend moe time with her grandchildren.
Pence said, “Bonnie has been a long-time loyal employee to Merchants National Bank. Both the bank and its customers have benefitted from her many years of outstanding service.”
