Husted speaker at Republican Family Picnic

The annual Highland County Republican Family Picnic will be held at 5 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 13 at the VFW Post 9094 Pavilion, located at 1000 W. Main St., Hillsboro.

The picnic is open to the public. Republican state and local candidates and officeholders will be introduced.

The speaker for the event will be Jon Husted, Ohio’s 53rd and current secretary of state and a candidate for governor in the 2018 Gubernatorial Election.

In 2015, he was the only statewide officeholder to request a cut, not an increase, in his annual budget and in 2017 he became the only known constitutional officeholder in history to request a 100 percent cut in taxpayer funding, opting instead to run his office using past surpluses.

Husted has been endorsed in his campaign for governor by Ohioians’ for Concealed Carry and is the only candidate in the race with an A-plus rating from the NRA.

Husted was raised in northwest Ohio’s Williams County, the oldest of three children. He earned both his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the University of Dayton and was a member of the 1989 Division III National Championship football team.

Jon and his wife, Tina, have three children, Alex (21), Katie (10) and Kylie (7).

The picnic on Sunday will begin at 5 p.m. The cost is $5 per person and kids eat free. The menu includes pulled pork and brisket barbecued by Richard Warner and all the trimmings by Shoelaces Catering.

Submitted by the Highland County Republican Party, Karen Faust, treasurer.
