Gourd and pine needle artist highlighted at library

A local artist whose pieces are constructed from gourds and pine needles is currently being highlighted at the Hillsboro library.

Patty Hubler’s crafting journey began in 2014. While in Florida, she saw others who were enjoying making pieces from gourds and pine needles. Hubler then read a book, gathered supplies, and dove into the craft herself. She is primarily self-taught.

Hubler’s favorite pieces are actually her learning pieces, she said. Hubler added that she has learned and utilized an array of stitches in her crafts.

Her crafts include baskets, jewelry and bird feeders. Several pieces are currently on display in the Hillsboro library’s teen section.

Hubler will be at the library on Thursday, Oct.19 demonstrating her craft. Starting at 5:30 p.m., patrons can watch her as she works and ask her questions.
