Banner program to recognize Greenfield-area veterans

A new program announced Nov. 9 will honor men and women from the Greenfield area who have served their country in the U.S. armed services with decorative banners to be displayed around Greenfield.

According to a news release from Grow Greater Greenfield, much like similar initiatives in other towns, the program puts on display 24-by-36-inch banners throughout Greenfield depicting local veterans.

The banner program is a collaboration between Grow Greater Greenfield and the Village of Greenfield, and organizers plan to put up the first banners by Memorial Day 2018, according to Merleen VanDyke, president of Grow Greater Greenfield, also known as G3.

Shari Royse-Bellar, a member of G3’s Events and Promotions Committee, said the banners will be on display annually between Memorial Day and Veterans Day.

“We welcome anyone interested in getting involved in the program, whether they are from Greenfield or any other community,” Royse-Bellar said.

The display includes the banner, printed on one side; the bracket required for public display; a 12-by-18-inch replica yard banner; and an internet presence on www.troopbanners.com/greenfield.

The cost to join the program for 2018 is $150, and $10 annually.

An application form and more information is available on the website.

Greenfield City Manager Ron Coffey said the village will manage the application process for the program, and is looking forward to partnering with G3.

“Our office is available to answer any questions or to process an order by phone,” Coffey said.

The village offices can be reached at 937-981-3500.

“With the guidance of Heritage Ohio and its Main Street Program, this group is energized to make positive changes to the downtown area in Greenfield, and this program is the first step of many great things to come to the city to welcome visitors to the area,” said Destiny Bryson, executive director of the Visitors Bureau of Highland County.

Grow Greater Greenfield is a combination of the former Greening Greater Greenfield and local community organization Greenfield – It’s Your Town. It is a local group that specifically focuses on downtown revitalization for Greenfield.

“G3 would like to thank all veterans and those currently serving our military for their service to our county on this Veterans Day,” the release said. “This program will display our sincere appreciation for years to come.”
