Bond was set Saturday at $100,000 for a Brown County man charged in connection with the death of his 11-year-old step-grandson, according to the Brown County Sheriff’s Office.

Donald Martin Jr., 58, 17296 Minnick Road, has been charged with reckless homicide, a felony of the third degree in the death of the boy, the sheriff’s office said. Minnick is the step-grandfather of the child, according to the press release.

Martin Jr. is currently being held at the Brown County Jail.

Martin’s bond was set to be reviewed Tuesday, according to court records. Attorney Bruce Wallace of Mt. Orab filed notice of his appearance as Martin’s attorney on Monday.

At approximately 6:40 p.m. Friday, the Brown County Communications Center received a call requesting a life squad to respond to 17296 Minnick Road, Mt. Orab. The caller stated that an 11-year-old male juvenile at that location had been having a temper tantrum, passed out, and was experiencing short shallow breaths, according to a press release from the sheriff’s office.

The life squad responded to the Minnick Road location and found the 11-year-old male to be unresponsive. The child was transported by the life squad to Mt. Orab Mercy, where he was pronounced deceased.
