Fire destroys garage/welding shop

A fire on U.S Route 62 north of Hillsboro destroyed a detached garage that also served as a small metal welding shop Thursday evening, according to the Highland County North Joint Fire & Ambulance District in Leesburg.

A spokesperson for the fire department said it was dispatched to 9460 U.S. Route 62 at 9:18 p.m., where firefighters found the garage full involved in flames and partially collapsing upon arrival.

The garage was a total loss, according to the spokesperson, and a home approximately 40 feet from the garage received minor siding damage due to heat from the fire.

The were no injuries, the spokesperson said.

The spokesperson said he could not immediately provide a name of the property owner.

The cause of the fire had not been determined as of late Friday afternoon, the spokesperson said, and remains under investigation.

Highland County North Joint received mutual aid from the Paint Creek Joint EMS/Fire District and the fire department in New Vienna, according to the spokesperson.
