Clinton County home damaged by fire

There were no injuries reported Thursday when fire severely damaged a two-story house in southern Clinton County.

Three adults and two juvenile children reside at the house on the corner of Valley Street and Lynchburg Road in Westboro, but nobody was inside the structure when the fire broke out, said Martinsville/Clark Township Fire Department Capt. Ryan Mobley.

When the Martinsville/Clark Township Fire Department arrived at the scene, the structure was fully engulfed by fire, Mobley said.

The American Red Cross has been contacted to assist the displaced occupants.

There reportedly were two pet dogs at the property, and both are believed to have made it out, though one possibly may have run off or was hiding, onlookers said.

At the time of the interview with Mobley, firefighters had not gone inside to look at the extent of the damage or determine the cause because it wasn’t safe yet to go in, said the fire captain.

Mobley, however, does not expect to find contents that can be salvaged.

The Martinsville/Clark Twp. Fire Department was assisted by the Blanchester-Marion Township Fire District, the Jefferson Township Fire Department, the Lynchburg Fire Department, and the Fayetteville Fire Department.
