A Fayette County Sheriff’s Office deputy was shot and another man was shot and killed in a gunfire exchange shortly after midnight Sunday at the Quality Inn/Amerihost in Jeffersonville.
Deputies were dispatched to the inn at approximately 12:43 a.m. Sunday to investigate a disturbance inside the establishment, located at 10160 Carr Road. While investigating, a sheriff’s deputy was shot by one of the individuals involved in the disturbance, according to Fayette County Sheriff Vernon Stanforth.
The deputy reportedly returned fire and the man was shot and killed, Stanforth said.
The suspect was pronounced dead at the scene by the Fayette County Coroner’s Office. The deputy is in stable condition.
The names of the deputy and suspect involved in the incident were not released by the FCSO.
“Right now, we don’t want to release the deputy’s name because we don’t want to compromise his safety,” Stanforth said Monday. “I was able to see him in the hospital and he’s doing well.”
Stanforth said the name of the man who was killed will be released soon.
Detectives from the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office and agents from the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation are conducting the investigation.
“We responded to a loud party event twice at the hotel that evening before the shooting occurred,” Stanforth said. “There were several individuals staying at a hotel room after a party that we received a noise complaint on. The first time we went out there, we thought everything was calmed down. But we received a second complaint and that’s when it got out of hand.”
Stanforth said more details will be released as the investigation continues.
The Washington C.H. Police Department, the Madison County Sheriff’s Office, the Ohio State Highway Patrol, Jefferson Township Fire Department and Fayette County EMS all responded to the scene on Sunday.
