A bridge replacement project and a roadway improvement project will get underway this week on two separate roadways in Highland County.

On Monday, June 3, construction for a bridge replacement began on U.S. Route 50, midway between the communities of Boston and Rainsboro. The project site is located between North Beach Road and Worley Mill Road, just west of Hill Road.

U.S. 50 will be closed for up to 45 days, and while it is closed motorists will be detoured via SR 124, SR 506 and SR 753. The John R. Jurgensen Company was awarded a contract in the amount of $988,668 to replace the bridge, and all work is scheduled to be completed in late August.

In a separate project, preliminary work has begun for a roadway improvement project on Tolle Road, where crews will be widening the shoulder, repairing pavement and drainage and correcting curve alignment between U.S. 50 and S.R. 138.

Beginning Monday, Tolle Road was closed, and the closure will be in effect for up to 60 days. While the route is closed, traffic will be detoured by way of SR 138, Mad River Road and U.S. 50.

Allard Excavation LLC was awarded a contract for 1,432,334 in April to complete the project, and all work is scheduled to be completed in late October.
