In an effort to brighten the holidays the Highland County Community Chorus will present a holiday concert at 4 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 20 at the Hillsboro First United Methodist Church.
The concert will feature “Fantasia on Christmas Carols” by Ralph Vaughan Williams and “Miscellaneous Carols” by John Rutter. The Highland County Children’s Chorus, initiated just this fall and directed by Laura Jacky, will also perform several selections.
The community chorus is made up of members of the Hillsboro, Highland County and surrounding communities, in addition to the Hillsboro High School Symphonic Choir.
“The purpose of the HCCC is promote the lifelong enjoyment of singing and to present quality music in our community,” director David White said.
The choir originally met every other year, but White said the plan now is to meet for two rehearsal periods each year and to present a holiday and a spring concert.
The children’s choir is for students in grades 4-6 and it follows the same schedule as the community choir.
More information can be found on the choir’s Facebook page at www.facebook.com/groups/highlandcountycommunitychorus or by contacting White at 937-393-3633.
The admission cost for Sunday’s concert is $10 for preferred seating and $7 for regular seating. Students will be admitted free.
“Proceeds from tickets sales and other sponsorship help defray the cost of sheet music, instrumental and vocal guests and soloists, and other miscellaneous items,” White said. “The directors and accompanists are volunteer at this time.”
The concert is expected to last around 45 minutes.
“It is our desire to bring a quality music performance to our rural community,” White said.
