Hillsboro Police Department reports

The Hillsboro Police Department has released the following information:

July 24

INCIDENT

At approximately 3:04 a.m., the police department initiated a traffic stop on North West Street near Harry Sauner Road. After further investigation, Freddie Younker, 23, of Portsmouth, was arrested for drug paraphernalia and transported to the Highland County Justice Center.

ACCIDENTS

At approximately 12:38 p.m., the police department responded to the area of North West Street and West Main Street for a report of a two-car crash. Upon arrival it was determined that Stephen Shearer, 66, of Winchester, was stopped in the southbound lane of North West Street at the intersection of West Main Street. Jacquiline Barrera, 64, of Hillsboro, was in the same lane of travel stopped in traffic directly behind Shearer. Shearer stated that a semi-truck/trailer was making a wide turn onto North West Street in front of him, so he put his vehicle into reverse and backed up to allow the semi to pass. As Shearer was backing up, he struck the front of Barrera’s vehicle. Shearer was issued a citation for improper backing. No injuries were reported on the scene.

At approximately 2:58 p.m., the police department responded to the area of North High Street near Sherwood Drive for a report of a two-car crash. Upon arrival it was determined that a male juvenile from Lynchburg and Rachel Cluff, 41, of Hillsboro, were both traveling southbound on North High Street. Cluff stated that due to the traffic ahead, they were traveling slowly when she observed the juvenile getting closer and not slowing down.The juvenile’s vehicle struck the Cluff vehhicle her in a rear-end type collision. No injuries were reported on the scene. The juvenile was cited for assured clear distance ahead.
