McKinzies have first baby of year

Josh and Larissa McKinzie said they were not really planning to have a baby and did not know any details of a first baby of the year contest, but are happy that they are parents of the First Highland County Baby Resident born at Highland District Hospital in 2016.

Lacey Rena’ McKinzie was born by Cesarian section at 8:56 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 2 at HDH in Hillsboro.

She is also her parents’ first child.

The McKinzies live outside of Sardinia in Highland County. Josh is a 2006 graduate of Eastern Brown High School and the former Larissa Gardner is a 2011 graduate of Peebles High School.

Josh said that when he and Larissa were married about 15 months ago they did not specifically plan on having children right away, but were happy when they found out Larissa was pregnant.

The new father said his daughter’s first name was picked by a process of elimination from a list of names online that they didn’t like. He said Lacey’s middle name is the same as Larissa’s mother’s.

Josh said he didn’t know exactly what he thought when he first saw his daughter, but did say, “We were pretty excited.”

Larissa’s due date was Dec. 28. Josh said that while he had heard of first baby of the year contests, he didn’t know any details and did not know they had won anything until HDH called them a few days after they returned from the hospital.

For having the year’s first baby the McKinzies will receive a special gift from the HDH Gift Shop, a $25 savings account from Merchants National Bank, a $25 gift certificate from Community Markets in Hillsboro, a $25 gift certificate from Town & Country and a $50 gift card from Southern Hills Community Bank.

The McKinzies said Larissa is healthy and doing well.
