WWII vet celebrates 98th birthday

Nearly 200 well-wishers were on hand Sunday at the Creekview Barn venue near Samantha as the family of John and Virginia Howsman gathered to celebrate John’s 98th birthday, which is Tuesday, June 15. Howsman is also a World War II veteran, having served 34 months in the U.S. Army with the 128th Anti-Aircraft Ammunition in Normandy, and also saw action in northern France and the Rhineland. He and his wife Virginia, who will turn 95 on Oct. 7, celebrated their 73rd anniversary on May 15. 2021
