HPD: Man caught siponing gas

A Hillsboro man was arrested Sunday after allegedly being caught siphoning gasoline from vehicles parked at a local business.

The Hillsboro Police Department said that at 11:53 p.m., officers responded to a business in the 6000 block of U.S. Route 50 after receiving a report of someone on the property. Upon arrival at the scene, officers located a vehicle that was occupied by a passenger sleeping, but no driver was in the vehicle.Officers began checking the lot for someone on foot when a male was located kneeling down between motor vehicles that he was stealing gas from by siphoning it out of the vehicle into a gas can.

The male was identified as Charles Edison, 39, of Hillsboro. Edison was arrested for theft and criminal trespassing and was transported to the Highland County Justice Center.

Edison was arraigned Monday in Hillsboro Municipal Court where he entered a plea of not guilty. He released on an OR bond. A pretrial was scheduled for 8 a.m. Dec. 16, according to the court’s online records.
