The Fairfield Local Schools Board of Education has enlisted the help of Dr. Kevin Boys, the president of Southern State Community College, to assist them in developing a strategic plan for the Leesburg area school district.

“All they’re doing is putting together a more strategic vision for the school district and looking for community and staff input as we move forward,” Fairfield Superintendent Bill Garrett said Friday. “We have had some pretty decent success academically and in other areas and we want to ensure we keep moving forward.”

Garrett said the school district has not put together a new strategic plan since 2007.

“The board felt like it just needed to bring someone in to help us create a vision as we move forward into the future,” Garrett said.

The superintendent said the board had been tossing the idea around for several months and had talked to some strategic consultants, but didn’t like where they were being directed. He said Boys’ name came up and that the SSCC president had recently put together a really nice strategic plan for the college.

“He has a knowledge of the area, our students, and the school district,” Garrett said. “We thought he would be a good person to work with, so we reached out to him, and he accepted.”

The school will host a “community engagement” meeting at 6:30 p.m. Monday, March 28 in the Fairfield auditeria. The school district said in a news release that the entire community, along with the school staff, is encouraged to participate in the meeting to share their thoughts and ideas to help the school continue to grow as a district.

Boys will need eight to 10 people to lead small discussion groups that evening and will provide a guideline session for those interested so they will be prepared for the engagement meeting.

Anyone who would like to attend or would be willing to lead a group is asked to contact the district office at 937-780-2221 no later than Wednesday, March 23.

Garrett said what the leaders will be asked to do should not take long and will be easy.

The superintendent said the district wants to broaden its goals and be dynamic in how it attacks that plan.

“We just want to create a vision of where we want to go,” Garrett said.
