A Buford area man was charged with heroin possession and other charges after a Highland County Sheriff’s Office deputy allegedly found him slumped over in the driver’s seat of his vehicle with a needle in his arm.

Highland County Sheriff Donnie Barrera reported that at 6:21 a.m. Tuesday, the Highland County Sheriff’s Office received a call from a concerned citizen that a motor vehicle was parked on the roadway on Hereford Road in Highland County.

Barrera said in a press release that about 10 minutes later, a sheriff’s deputy located the reported vehicle. After approaching the vehicle, the deputy located a male subject slumped over in the driver’s seat, with a hypodermic needle stuck in his arm, said Barrera. The deputy then disabled the vehicle, which was in the “drive” position.

According to Barrera, the driver was identified as 36-year old Charles Edward Sprinkles, of the Buford area. According to court records online Wednesday, Sprinkles has a Sardinia address. He was charged with Possession of Drugs (Heroin), Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol and/or Drugs, and Driving While Under Suspension.

The incident remains under investigation.

According to jail records, Sprinkles was booked into the Highland County Justice Center at 1:23 p.m. Tuesday. He was scheduled to appear in Hillsboro Municipal Court on Wednesday for his arraignment.
