SATH (Supplementary Assistance to the Handicapped) will hold its 25th annual Walk and Roll-A-Thon this Saturday, May 7 at the Rocky Fork State Park, east of Hillsboro.

Registration will begin at 9 a.m. at the Dovetail Activity Area in the Rocky Fork Campground off North Shore Drive. Walkers, or this in or on wheelchairs, bikes, roller blades, strollers, etc. are invited to come out for the day and help KAMP Dovetail with their pledges and support.

“We get a lot of parents who come out with kids that have special needs and are in wheelchairs, strollers, riding bicycles, on roller blades or whatever,” said SATH Executive Director Linda Allen. “It’s all on blacktop and people can walk, run, or ride just about anything. That’s why we call it the Walk and Roll-A-Thon.”

Prizes will be given to the top five individuals who collect the most pledges. Door prizes and refreshments will be provided.

This event is being held to promote and support KAMP DOVETAIL, a five-day and four-night summer camp for children with special needs. The KAMP is held the third week of June at Rocky Fork State Park. Last year more than 500 individuals, which included children with special needs, volunteer and staff members enjoyed a fun-filled week of outdoor camping experiences. SATH underwrites the cost of KAMP DOVETAIL through donations obtained by fundraising events such as the Walk and Roll-A-Thon.

“It’s not just for handicapped people,” Allen said. “It’s for everybody. We just try to make it so everyone can take part and enjoy a spring Saturday morning at the lake.”

For more information to walk or sponsor an individual, call Allen at 937-366-6657. Pledges sheets can be obtained by visiting www.kampdovetail.com.
