Summer feeding program happening in Greenfield

One way of taking care of our youth is to make sure they have access to nutritious meals, and that is getting done in Greenfield through the Summer Food Service Program (SFSP).

Highland County Community Action Organization (HCCAO), which partners with the Ohio Department of Education for the program, sponsors and serves the summer feeding program in Greenfield, said Christi Hauke, director of social services at HCCAO.

The organization has sponsored the feeding program in Greenfield for many years, and it’s a way to allow children in school, ages 18 and younger, access to a nutritious, prepared lunch throughout the week from a central location. Also, it’s free and there are no income requirements.

This year, the program began on June 6 and it will run through Aug. 5. It’s Monday to Friday from 11:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. each day. It is located in the Greenfield schools cafeteria at 200 N. Fifth St.

On occasion, the meal will coincide with other activities, like the Paint Creek Joint EMS/Fire District’s water fun days and Altrusa’s free book distribution.

Weekend meals packs are also available on Fridays, but for those, an application must be completed and approved. Those applications are available on-site during the lunch distribution.
