About 65 classic vehicles and a dozen artisans turned out Friday evening for a Hillsboro Uptown Business Association First Friday event, according to president Joe Mahan.
The cars were lined up in the block around the Highland County Courthouse in Hillsboro while the artisans were set up on West Main Street and at the Highland County Historical Society’s Highland House Museum.
“We had a nice turnout of classic cars and artisans, the weather was great, and there was a pretty nice crowd, so it went pretty well,” Mahan said.
The Hillsboro Uptown Business Association (HUBA) holds First Friday events to encourage people to come out and explore what uptown Hillsboro has to offer in the way of shopping, dining, entertainment and socializing. They generally run from about 5-8 p.m.
The next First Friday event will be a Highland County Relay For Life Kickoff & Cruise-In on June 3. In addition to the cruise-in, Mahan said several Highland County Relay For Life teams will be set up in the uptown area holding fundraisers.
Other First Friday events this year include:
• Friday, Aug. 5 – Back to School Bash & Cruise-in.
• Friday, Sept. 2 – Cruise-in the ‘Boro & Homecoming event.
• Friday, Oct. 7 – Harvest-Fest & Cruise-in.
• Friday, Nov. 4 – Uptown Open House.
• Friday, Dec. 2 – Uptown Christmas.
All First Friday events take place in the uptown Hillsboro historical district and are subject to change if the need arises.
HUBA also organizes the Festival of Bells Car Show, BOO-FEST, the Snowflake Pageant, a Moonlight Madness event, Shop Small Saturday, and the Lighted Christmas Parade. HUBA additionally maintains the flower pots and urns in the uptown district.
