Joshaw Bridges is pictured during a hearing in Highland County Common Pleas Court on Wednesday.

A West Union man who pled guilty for a second time to failing to register a change of address as a registered sex offender will be behind bars for four years.

Joshaw D. Bridges, 33, pled guilty to the third-degree felony on Wednesday in Highland County Common Pleas Court and was sentenced to a mandatory term of 36 months in prison.

He was sentenced to an additional 12 months in prison because the newest case is a violation of community control from a 2012 case when the defendant pled guilty to failing to register as a sex offender.

According to court records, in 2006 Bridges pled guilty to third-degree felony gross sexual imposition and was sentenced to two years in prison, and the offense requires that he register as a sexual offender.

Judge Rocky Coss said that when Bridges was put on probation instead of being sent to prison in 2012, he was given a “humongous break.”

But the law requires sexual offenders to register for the protection of the public, Coss said.

“Like it or not, that’s the law and you have to comply with it,” the judge said.

In other hearings, three defendants were each sentenced to 30-month prison terms, and in each of the plea agreements the state said it would not oppose judicial release after six months.

Timothy Anteck, 26, and Nicky Kerwood, 27, both of Hillsboro, were each sentenced on third-degree felony heroin possession, while Ronald Blake Brown, 21, also of Hillsboro, was sentenced on third-degree felony illegal assembly or possession of chemicals for the manufacture of drugs.

The felony convictions are the first for each of the defendants. Each of them faced second-degree felony drug charges that were either dismissed or amended. Those offenses would have carried a mandatory prison term.

Bradley Scott Wright, 27, Greenfield, was sentenced to 18 months in prison on a third-degree felony illegal assembly charge he pled guilty to in May.

Coss noted Wright’s previous felony convictions and that the defendant had previously served prison time.

Chad A. Davidson, 29, Hillsboro, was sentenced to eight months in prison despite a recommendation in the plea agreement for community control. He pled guilty to fifth-degree felony heroin possession in May.

Coss noted that Davidson was currently in prison on a Greene County conviction. The judge also noted that the Greene County offense and the Highland County offense occurred closely together, and Davidson had no previous felony convictions. But he said community control for Davidson “would be a waste of resources.”

The judge said Davidson’s presentence report indicated he had essentially been on probation for the last decade and he listed a number of violations in that time. Additionally, the judge said Davidson’s felony offenses were committed while he was on community control.

Wednesday’s sentence was ordered to run consecutive to the Greene County sentence.

Chasity Lynn Robinette, 37, Bainbridge, pled guilty and was sentenced to a total of 18 months in prison, nine months each on two counts of fifth-degree felony receiving stolen property.

Coss noted Robinette had previous felony convictions in Ohio, as well as a previous felony conviction in Indiana. The judge also made note of the defendant’s “history of stealing from people.”

James E. Tong, 37, Hillsboro, was sentenced to community control and a residential treatment program on a fifth-degree felony heroin possession charge.

Tong was initially granted intervention in lieu of conviction in December, but admitted in June to violating the program.

Macaela Dawn McKinney, 25, Lynchburg, was sentenced to community control and is to complete a current treatment program. She pled guilty in May to third-degree felony illegal assembly.

Wesley A. Parker, 34, Manchester, was also sentenced to community control and treatment, but for fifth-degree felony drug possession. He pled guilty to the charge in May.

Ricky Allen Jones, 19, Greenfield, on fifth-degree felony breaking and entering, was sentenced to three years of community control. He was also ordered to obtain his GED and to seek employment.

Zachary A. Campbell, 26, Greenfield, pled guilty to unlawful sexual conduct with a minor, a third-degree felony. His sentencing is scheduled for August.
