A team effort by village officials, business owners and other volunteers is resulting in a beautification project in Lynchburg focused on painting business facades, and eventually including the planting of more trees and flowers in the business area.
Mayor Terry Burden said that two storefronts were painted the weekend of June 18, and three more were completed over the most recent weekend. He said there are six or seven more buildings to be completed through August.
Burden said Amy Smith of Lowe’s spearheads the Lowe’s for Heroes program, and made Lynchburg one of the projects. Lowe’s provided paint, brushes, other items and about 15 employees to help with the project.
“There’s been a lot of detail painting,” said Burden, describing the time-consuming work. “But it’s looking really good.” Burden also thanked council member Tag Pendleton for volunteering countless hours.
“He’s been a great volunteer,” said Burden. “It’s amazing how much effort he’s putting in.”
Burden said various businesses have contributed additional funds, manpower and equipment, and the painting effort has been starting at 7:30 a.m. and lasting “until it’s too hot.” He said historic paint colors have been used for the project.
Burden said the group is taking a break for the Fourth of July weekend to enjoy the holiday, but will be back at it the following weekend.
Bruden described various contributions from individual store owners, and also invited area residents to drive through Lynchburg and see the difference.
“It’s been a group effort,” said the mayor.
