Concert in Hillsboro uptown area

A concert event that was canceled due to a power outage and then faced inclement weather and conflicting events when it was rescheduled last year will get another shot this Saturday when the free, open air event is held in uptown Hillsboro.

The concert will take place from 6:45 to 11 p.m. on Governor Trimble Place. The street will be closed off and a portable stage will be set up near the entrance to the Hillsboro Eagles.

At 6:45 p.m., Hillsboro High School graduate Reyna Spears will take the stage with the Curious Animals. Hillsboro Special Administrative Assistant Heather Collins said the Curious Animals are a cover band that plays a wide range of classic rock, country, “and pretty much anything.”

Then at 9 a.m. Noah Smith will take the stage with what Collins said will be a country and rock act.

“We brought them back because they are a really, really good band that needs to be seen,” Collins said.

Smith first played Hillsboro with his rock band while he was still in high school. Last year he was nominated for Cincinnati’s Entertainment Awards in three categories: Best New Artist, Best Country Artist, and Best Singer/Songwriter. More information can be found at http://www.noahsmithmusic.com.

Last year, Smith was scheduled to play in uptown Hillsboro on June 6, but that morning a massive AEP power outage occurred due to blown transformers, killing power for thousands of local residents and closing most businesses throughout the day. The concert was rescheduled last year for Oct. 9, but as stage time neared the temperature dropped, winds pick up and the Hillsboro football team was playing its homecoming game, so a sparse crowd turned out.

As of Tuesday evening, the National Weather Service was calling for party sunny skies during the day on Saturday, but a 50 percent chance of evening showers or thunderstorms.

Collins said that if the concert is canceled, she will try to announce it on the city of Hillsboro’s Facebook page by 2 p.m. Saturday.

DP Grille will be selling food during Saturday’s event. No coolers are permitted at the event.
