Sheriff Donnie Barrera reports for the week of Sept. 7-13 the Highland County Sheriff’s Office received 363 911 calls, answered 138 requests for service, dispatched 120 fire and EMS runs, took 32 offense reports, and investigated three traffic crashes.

At 12:40 p.m. on Sept. 7, several citizens from Loch Ness Drive in Paint Township called the sheriff’s office to report a domestic disturbance. A deputy was dispatched to the scene to investigate. Upon speaking to several witnesses it was determined that an assault had taken place, and Todd M. Wheeler, of Hillsboro, was arrested for one count of domestic violence.

Deputies were dispatched to investigate a burglary at a Hollowtown Road residence at 2:20 p.m. on Sept. 9. The homeowner called after returning home to find the front door had been forcibly entered and several firearms missing. A report was taken and photographic evidence was collected.

A Fenner Road resident called the sheriff’s office at 2 a.m. on Sept. 11 after hearing strange noises coming from the area near her garage. A deputy responded to the scene and checked around the garage and the home. Nothing suspicious was located and all doors and windows were found to be secure.

On Sunday, Sept. 13 at 1 a.m. the sheriff’s office received a 911 call from a female involved in a fight with her boyfriend while driving west on SR 73 near Diven Road. Deputies were dispatched to the scene and located the vehicle and suspects stopped near East Welcome Road. Two males and one female were transported from the vehicle to the Highland County Justice Center while a third male was found walking westbound along SR 73. Rodney Lee Rollins, 45, of Wilmington, was charged with one count of domestic violence. Michelle Lynn Howard, 48, of Wilmington, was charged with one count of domestic violence and OVI. Both are scheduled for arraignment on Sept. 14 in Hillsboro Municipal Court.

ACCIDENTS

On Saturday, Sept. 12 at 2:58 p.m., the police department responded to a motor vehicle crash in the area of the 1200 block of North West Street. Kay Hill, 60, of Hillsboro, was southbound on North West Street when Rodrigo De Jesus Chapol-Cobaxin, 20, of Hillsboro, was northbound and went left of center striking left rear side of Hill’s vehicle. Both vehicles received disabling damage and were towed from the scene. Chapol-Cobaxin was cited for no operator’s and left of center.

On Sunday, Sept. 13 at 10:47 p.m., the police department responded to a motor vehicle crash in the area Moore Road near Fairground Road. Rodney Suiter was eastbound on Moore Road when his vehicle was struck in the passenger side by a vehicle driven by Edwin Muncy, 49, of Lynchburg, who pulling out of a private property entrance. Suiter was cited for failure to yield when entering the roadway from private property.

On Monday, Sept. 14 at 10:20 a.m., the police department responded to a motor vehicle crash in the 100 block of Greystone Drive. Jay D. Burba, 58, of Hillsboro, was northbound on Greystone Drive when his vehicle struck an unoccupied, parked vehicle. Burba was cited for improper passing.

On Monday, Sept. 14 at 6:49 p.m., the police department responded to a motor vehicle crash in the parking lot of Deer Brook Apartments, 1100 Northview Dr. William T. Sanders, 49, of Hillsboro, was making a right turn out of the parking lot when he struck the driver’s side of a vehicle driven by Jared A. Cumberland, 26, of Hillsboro.

On Monday, Sept. 14 at 7:35 p.m., the police department responded to a motor vehicle crash in the parking lot of a local business on the 1400 block of North High Street. Tate W. Erkenbrecher, 23, of Hillsboro, was traveling straight into a parking lot. Erkenbrecher failed to see a light pole and struck in with the front of the vehicle.

INCIDENT

On Friday, Sept. 4 at 5:09 p.m., the police department received a call from a local business at the 500 block of Harry Sauner Road to assist the loss prevention manager. Upon officer investigation, Brent A. Rinehart, 38, of Hillsboro, was charged with theft without consent.

Jettie Duffield, 35, of Hillsboro, was cited for brake lights.

Kaleb E. Landrum, 24, of Greenfield, was arrested for failure to appear.

Tracy L. Mills, 36, of Hillsboro, was arrested for failure to appear.

Rodney Suiter, 45, of Hillsboro, was cited for failure to yield.

Byron E. Jacob, 68, of Hillsboro, was arrested for OVI and left of center.

Kerstin Walker, 19, of Hillsboro, was arrested for disorderly conduct.

Elijah Dean Hammonds, 18, of Winchester, citation failure to obey traffic control device.

Gary R. Throckmorton Jr., 53, of Wilmington, bench warrant.

Curtis Glenn Wingate, 22, of Dayton, bench warrant.

ACCIDENTS

On Thursday, Sept. 17 at 12:28 p.m. the police department responded to a motor vehicle crash in the area of North High Street near Somers Street. Lon E. King, 84, of Morrow, was northbound when a deer ran into the roadway and struck the driver’s side of King’s vehicle causing damage.

On Thursday, Sept. 17 at 12:28 p.m. the police department responded to a motor vehicle crash in the area of North High Street near Somers Street. Charles E. McGowan, 68, of Hillsboro, was southbound when a deer struck the vehicle causing damage to the driver’s side.

On Thursday, Sept. 17 at 2:18 p.m. the police department responded to a motor vehicle crash in the area of the Muntz Street near South High Street. Amber G. Bailey, 26, of Hillsboro, was stopped at a traffic light. Bailey began to back up and struck the front of a vehicle driven by Mark R. Freeman, 51, of Hillsboro. Bailey was cited for improper backing.

Clint Moore, 35, of Hillsboro, was cited for barking dogs.

Katherine Ryan, 30, of Hillsboro, was cited for speed.
