Sheriff Donnie Barrera reports for the week of May 8-14, the Highland County Sheriff’s Office received 276 911 calls, answered 179 requests for service, dispatched 146 fire and EMS runs, took 32 offense reports and investigated four traffic crashes.

On May 9 at 2:07 a.m. a deputy attempted to stop a vehicle for a moving violation on North Shore Drive when the driver refused to stop and a short pursuit ensued. The driver of the vehicle then fled from the vehicle on foot into a nearby wooded area. Cody Butler, 34, was apprehended a short time later and charged with driving under suspension, obstruction and failure to comply.

At 8:12 a.m. on May 12 the sheriff’s office received an open line 911 call from a residence on North Shore Drive. Dispatchers could hear several persons yelling and screaming in what sounded to be a domestic dispute. A deputy responded to the scene and spoke to the parties involved. The argument was of a verbal nature and no charges were necessary.

On May 13 at 4:30 p.m. a Roush Road resident called the sheriff’s office to report the theft of a bicycle. A deputy was dispatched to the scene where an offense report was taken.

The sheriff’s office received a call from a Mad River Road resident at 11:22 p.m. on May 14 reporting her husband had not returned home after going out to check on livestock that had gotten out of their fence. HCSO deputies and firefighters from the Paint Creek Joint/EMS Distrtict Station 23 were dispatched to begin a search for the missing man. After several hours of combing a large target area the male was located in a heavily wooded area adjacent to a large cow pasture. The subject became incapacitated after suffering a medical emergency and was flown from the scene by medical helicopter.
