Open house and hog roast

Lowell Chambers and Rusty Fite invite the public to attend the Annual Open House/Hog Roast at 216 N. High St., Hillsboro, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday, Sept. 18. They will be serving pulled pork, hamburgers, hot dogs, bratwurst, potato salad, baked beans, beverages and cookies. Chambers-Fite Realty has sponsored this annual event for over 15 years.

Penn Township School Reunion

The Penn Township School Reunion will be held Sunday, Sept. 20 at the Samantha Friends Church at the corner of Fall Creek Road and U.S. Route 62. It will include a 1 p.m. carry-in dinner open to anyone who attended the school.

‘100 Years of Class’ yearbooks

The 2015 McClain yearbooks celebrating “100 Years of Class” are available for pick up or purchase ($40) in room 232 in the old vocational building on Greenfield schools campus. Mrs. Jo Ellen Gossett asks that those coming to pick up yearbooks do so between 7:40 – 8:30 a.m., or 1:40 – 2:30 p.m., or after school.

Holiday Trails Association meeting

The annual meeting of the Holiday Trails Association will be held at 6 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 19 at the shelter house. The nominees for election this year are David Chilton and Allen Mills, and there is a vacant seat. If you would like to serve on the board call secretary Jo Ann Trueblood at 365-1243.

Peterson district office hours

State Senator Bob Peterson (R-Sabina) will hold district office hours at the Hillsboro Public Library from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Monday, Sept. 21 to meet with Highland County residents. No appointment is necessary.

Fall Festival of Leaves Scholarship Pageant applications

Applications for the Fall Festival of Leaves Scholarship Pageant are available at the McFadden Pharmacy in Bainbridge, Out West Hair Designs in Bourneville and She Said Yes in Chillicothe. Contestants, ages 15-18 by Sept. 21, 2015, must attend or be a graduate of Adena, Chillicothe, McClain, Hillsboro, Huntington, Paint Valley, Southeastern, Unioto, Western Latham or Zane Trace high schools. The first 25 applications will be accepted. There is a $10 application fee. The pageant will be held Oct. 15 at the Paxton Theatre in Bainbridge.

Alzheimer’s/Dementia Lunch & Learn For Families

The Alzheimer’s Association, Greater Cincinnati Chapter, will host an Alzheimer’s/Dimentia Lunch & Learn for Families from 11:30 a..m. to 1 p.m. Sept. 22 at the Highland County Senior Citizen Center, 185 Muntz St., Hillsboro. What: The programs will provide an opportunity for families and caregivers to learn and ask questions about Alzheimer’s disease and dementia, while receiving support from others in similar situations. OVRDC meeting, picnic

The Ohio Valley Regional Development Commission (OVRDC) Full Commission Meeting & Picnic will be held Friday, Sept. 25 in Ross County at the Adena Mansion & Gardens, 847 Adena Rd., Chillicothe. Registration will be held at 10:30 a.m., the meeting at 11 a.m. and lunch at noon. The keynote speaker will be David Goodman, director of the Ohio Development Services Agency.

The OVRDC Full Commission members have received registration information. Anyone planning to attend must RSVP by Monday, Sept. 21. The picnic cost for non-members and/or guests is $25, which must be paid by Thursday, Sept. 24.

Middle school selling Indian Cards

The Hillsboro Middle School eighth grade class will be selling Indian Discount Cards through Sept. 25 to help finance the class trip to Washington, D.C. The cards sell for $10 and can be purchased from any eighth grade student or at the HMS office during school hours. For information call (937) 393-9877.

The annual business meeting of Enchanted Hills will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 26 at AmVets 61, 11541 North Shore Rd. All members of Enchanted Hills are invited to attend.

‘Christmas Carol’ auditions

The Paxton Theatre will hold auditions for its production of Tom Mula’s Jacob Marley’s “Christmas Carol” at 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 1 The Paxton Theatre, 133 E. Main St., Bainbridge. Auditioners should prepare and memorize a dramatic, one-minute monologue. Those interested on working in available crew positions will be asked to complete an interview during auditions. “Christmas Carol” will be performed Dec. 4 and 5. All-you-can-eat dinner

Hillsboro VFW Post 9094 (behind the Dairy Queen) will hold an all-you-can-eat dinner including fish, fries, slaw, hush puppies and soft drinks from 4:30 to 7 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 3. The dinner is open to the public.

Deer Hunters Banquet

The Highland County Deer Hunters Banquet will be held Saturday, Oct. 3 at the Wharton Building on the Highland County Fairgrounds. Games, a raffle and social hour begin at 5 p.m. with a buffet dinner at 6:30 p.m. The group’s purpose is to raise funds in support for education, habitat preservation, and preservation of the hunting tradition for the benefit of whitetail deer and other wildlife. Vascular screening event

The Highland County Health Department will host a vascular screening event for patients 50 years of age or older. Screenings will be performed by The Christ Hospital. The non-invasive, painless screenings are effective in detecting three prevalent vascular diseases; carotid artery disease, peripheral artery disease, and abdominal aortic aneurysms. The event will be held Oct. 20, 22, 27 and 29 at the health department, 1487 N. High St., Hillsboro. The cost of the screening is $60.
