Local artist featured at Newport on the Levee

Local artist Connie Barrett has over 30 watercolors on display at the Art on the Levee Gallery at Newport on the Levee. She is a current member and past president of the Brush and Palette Art Guild. Barrett started her art career in commercial advertising and has been an active painter since 1993, winning many awards and honors in major exhibitions around Ohio. She invites friends and fans to join her for a reception and fun evening from 5-8 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 14. The gallery is located next to the Newport Aquarium in Northern Kentucky. Thanksgiving dinner, auction

A Thanksgiving dinner and auction will be held at the Brushcreek Community Center (Sinking Spring gym) on Saturday, Nov. 14 starting at 5 p.m. The menu will consist of turkey and dressing, gravy, mashed potatoes, green beans, salads, rolls, homemade desserts, coffee, water and pop. An auction will start at approximately 7 p.m. Freewill donations will be accepted for the meal.

Craft bazaar

The Hillsboro Free Will Baptist Church, 6360 U.S. Route 50, will host a craft bazaar Saturday, Nov. 14 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Origami Owl, Scentsy, Tastefully Simple and 31 are a few of the vendors along with several crafters with handmade items. Lunch will be available. Everyone is invited.

Dinner at First Presbyterian Church of Greenfield

The First Presbyterian Church of Greenfield will serve dinner from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 15 in the church dining room. The menu will include chicken and homemade noodles, mashed potatoes, green beans or peas, a variety of salads, a variety of cakes and pies, rolls and drinks. Carryout will be available. The cost of the meal is a suggested donation of $8 per person. Children 12 and under are free.

Spaghetti lunch fundraiser

A Greenfield family is holding a fundraiser on Nov. 15 at the Good Shepherd church on SR 28 just west of Greenfield. The event is to help raise funds so the family can host an eastern European orphan over the holidays through the New Horizons for Children organization. The lunch begins at 12:30 p.m. and is open to everyone. Meals are $5 per person, while children 5 and under are free.

Community chorus rehearsal

The Highland County Community Chorus invites singers high school age and up to a rehearsal at 7 p.m. Monday, Nov. 16 in the Hillsboro High School choir room. Contact director David White for more information at 937-393-3633.

Quarter raffle

A quarter raffle, sponsored by Altrusa of Highland County, will be held Tuesday, Nov. 17 at St. Mary Catholic Church. A spaghetti dinner starts at 5:30 p.m. and is $6 for adults and $4 for children when there will also be vendors on hand. The quarter raffle starts at 6:30 p.m. and includes split the pot, baskets and other items. For more information call 442-6085.

L-C Board of Ed. meeting

The Lynchburg-Clay Board of Education will meet in regular session at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 18 at the Lynchburg-Clay Board of Education building.

Benefit dinner, auction

A benefit dinner and auction for Caitlin Adkins, a 23-year-old 2010 graduate of Hillsboro High School, will be held from 5-8 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 21 at the former Marshall school. Adkins was diagnosed with Stage III breast cancer in May.

Soup’s On Free Meal

The Soup’s On Free Meal will be held Saturday, Nov. 28 at St. Mary’s Episcopal Church, corner of North High and North streets, Hillsboro. Prayer and praise starts at 4:30 p.m. and dinner is served 5-6 p.m. The menu will be a Thanksgiving special featuring turkey, dressing, noodles, mashed potatoes, gravy, green beans, cranberries and pumpkin pie. There will be no meal served in December.

Festival of Trees

Bell Gardens Place, in partnership with Relay for Life, will host a Festival of Trees, asking Highland County businesses and individuals to decorate and donate Christmas trees to be auctioned off on Thursday, Dec. 3. All proceeds will benefit Highland County Relay for Life. Trees should be no taller than 5 feet and should be delivered Bell Gardens Place, 251 Harry Sauner Rd., Hillsboro, by Monday, Nov. 30. Christmas Bazaar

St. Mary Catholic School will have its annual Christmas Bazaar on Saturday, Dec. 5 from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the school hall at 119 E. Walnut St., Hillsboro. Food will be provided by the St. Mary Youth Group. Any crafters or vendors who would like to set can call the school at 840-9932. Tables are $25 each.

Mowrystown Holiday Craft Fair & Bazaar

The Mowrystown Holiday Craft Fair & Bazaar will be held at Whiteoak High School, North High Street, Mowrystown, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 5. Lunch will be served. The menu will include soups, sandwiches, chips, pies, cakes and drinks. Santa will make an appearance following the holiday parade which will begin at Crop Production (West Main Street) at 1 p.m. Cookies and hot chocolate will be served while pictures with Santa are being taken.
