Underground Railroad discussions

A presentation and round table discussion will be conducted at the Konneker Education Museum in Greenfield at 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 28. The programs are sponsored by the historical society from Greenfield, Highland County and Lynchburg and are free and open to the public.

Dodsonville ham and bean supper

The Dodsonville Community Church, 8010 U.S. Route 50, will hold a ham and bean supper from 6-8 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 27 for a freewill donation. The event is will be canceled if the weather is bad. For more information visit www.dodsonvillecommunitychurch.com.

Open Door Free Meal

The Open Door Free Meal will be held at the Greenfield United Methodist Church on Saturday, Feb. 27. Eat-in serving will be held from 4 to 4:30 p.m. The menu will be spaghetti, garlic bread, green beans and cherry dessert.

Soup’s On Free Meal

The Soups On Free Meal will be served Saturday, Feb. 27 at St. Mary’s Episcopal Church, Hillsboro. Prayer and praise starts at 4:30 p.m. and dinner is served from 5-6 p.m. The menu will be chili-mac and cheese, tossed salad, rolls,

assorted drinks and desserts. The meal is served eat-in only.

Pancake sausage supper

The Fruitdale United Methodist Church is hosting a pancake and sausage supper on Saturday, Feb. 27 from 4-7 p.m. Supper items include pancakes, sausage, dessert, drinks, and table relishes. The church is located on SR 41 south of Greenfield. Freewill donations will be accepted.

Blues, Brews, Stews Winterfest

The fourth annual Blues, Brews and Stews Winterfest, sponsored by Greening Greater Greenfield (G3), will take place from 7 to 10:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 27. There will be two venues this year, one at Spark Creative Artspace at 251 Jefferson St. in Greenfield and the other across the street at Catch 22 Sports Pub.

Barr retirement party

The city of Hillsboro will host a retirement party in the Firehouse Community Room at 204 N. East St. for Randy Barr on Feb. 29 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Barr has worked for the city 26 years. The public is encouraged to join the city in saying farewell.

Water, sewer fees to be discussed

The Hillsboro Utilities Committee will meet at 6 p.m. Monday, Feb. 29 at the Hillsboro Firehouse at 204 N. East St. to discuss the water and sewer fee structure. The meeting is open to the public.

Special Leesburg Council meeting

Leesburg Village Council will hold a special meeting at 7 p.m. Wednesday, March 2 at the Leesburg Municipal Building to discuss 2016 finances and appropriations.

World Day of Prayer in Marshall

World Day of Prayer 2016 will be observed on March 4 at the Marshall United Methodist Church, 10968 SR 124. The ceremony will begin at 1:30 p.m. Everyone is invited. Since 1920, people around the world have gathered to collectively worship on the first Friday in March. Each year a different country serves as the writer of the World Day of Prayer worship service, interpreting scripture within their cultural context. For 2016, this country is Cuba. Addiction series at Peace Lutheran

A free seven-part “Baffled By Addiction” educational series presented my Ed Hughes, and Ronald Turner, M.D., will presented on Thursdays, Feb. 4 to March 17, at Peace Lutheran Church, 231 Harry Sauner Road, Hillsboro. The series will provide education, help and hope to loved ones of addicted persons. Topics to be covered include: The Disease of Addiction, The Progression, Hitting Bottom – How Alcoholic/Addict Decides to get Help, Then Ways You Can Help, The Recovery Process, and Real Stories of Hope. Hillsboro VFW fish dinner

Hillsboro VFW Post 9094 will hold an all-you-can-eat fish dinner that includes fries, slaw, hush puppies and a soft drink from 4:30 to 7 p.m. Saturday, March 5. The cost is $8. The dinner is open to the public.

Brushcreek Life Squad supper

The Brushcreek Life Squad will be hold its annual pancake and sausage supper on Saturday, March 5 at the Brushcreek Community Center in Sinking Spring. Supper begins at 5 p.m. with the auction starting at 7 p.m. The menu includes sausage, pancakes, biscuits and gravy, scrambled eggs, coffee, pop, juice and milk. Proceeds benefit the life squad.

Spark, McClain Band Boosters team up

The McClain Band Boosters is teaming up with Spark on Sunday, March 6 for a fundraiser to help earn money for the band’s trip to New York City. Spark’s Cathy Rivas will be the instructor and the event will take place from 2-4 p.m. at 251 Jefferson St., Greenfield. A field of flowers will be the subject of the canvas event. Costs will be $35 a person and includes a stretched canvas, all paints and brushes, use of Spark’s equipment, a cup of coffee and something to nibble on. Coffee and Canvas is opened to high school students in grades 9-12 and all adults. The size is limited to 35 students and everyone will leave the building with their own artistic piece. Reservations may be made by submittting a contact form to make reservation along with a personal check to: Spark Creative Artspace, P.O. Give Back to School Night

A “Give Back to School Night” fundraiser for the Greenfield Middle School Eighth Grade choir will be held from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. Wednesday, March 9 at Subway in Greenfield. Ten percent of all sales at Subway that day will be donated back to the choir.

St. Mary Quarter Raffle

St. Mary School will have its Spring Quarter Raffle on Tuesday, March 15. Dinner will start at 5:30 p.m. and the raffle will begin at 6:30 p.m. Each classroom will provide baskets for the raffle along with products from the vendors and local businesses. If you are a vendor and would like to participate, contact the school at 840-9932. The school is located at 119 E. Walnut St. in Hillsboro.

OVRDC officers election

The Ohio Valley Regional Development Commission (OVRDC) Full Commission Meeting & Election of Officers will be held Friday, March 18 at the UC Clermont College Student Activity Center, 100 Clermont College Dr., Batavia. Registration will be at 10:30 a.m., the meeting at 11 a.m. and lunch at 12:30 p.m. Keynote speaker will be Dan Neff of the Appalachian Regional Commission. The meeting is open to the public and registration information can be found at www.ovrdc.org. If you have questions, call 1-800-223-7491. The cost for non-members and/or guests is $20, which must be paid by Thursday, March 17.

A community Palm Sunday Service will be held at the Greenfield Church of Christ, 955 Jefferson St., on Sunday, March 20 at 6:00 pm. Everyone is invited.

The Southern Ohio Educational Service Center Governing Board Finance Committee will meet at 2 p.m. Monday, March 21 at the Southern Ohio Educational Service Center, 3321 Airborne Road, Wilmington.

More Than an Easter Egg Hunt

More Than an Easter Egg Hunt will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saaturday, March 26 at the Hillsboro Church of the Nazarene. Everyone is welcome. There will be age appropriate egg hunts, coloring, caterpillar-train ride, cookie decorating, lunch and pictures with the Easter Bunny. The egg hunt schedule is: 11:45 a.m. – Age 0-2; Noon – Age 3-5; 12:15 p.m. – Age 6-8; 12:30 p.m. – Age 9-12. For more information contact Tami Combs.
