Engineer’s office moving to 4-day weeks

Effective April 4 through Oct. 6, the Highland County Engineer’s Office and Highland County Highway Department will be working four 10—hour days Monday through Thursday from 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. All business should be conducted during those hours. The office and highway garage will be closed all day Friday effective with the above dates. After hours emergencies will continue to be handled by calling the Highland County Sheriff’s Office at 937-393-1421.

Bright Local board meeting

The Bright Local Board of Education will hold its next regular meeting at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 15 at Whiteoak High School. This is a change from the previously established meeting date.

Sinking Spring election dinner

The Sinking Spring Community Church Women in Ministry will have an Election Day dinner from 11 a.m. until they are sold old Tuesday, March 15 at the church. The menu will include ham, beans and cornbread; homemade chicken and noodles; ham and cheese sandwiches; hot dogs and coneys; sloppy joes; cole slaw; desserts; ice tea. lemonade and coffee. A freewill donation is requested.

Rainsboro Election Day Dinner

The Rainsboro United Methodist Church will have an Election Day Lunch & Dinner on March 15 from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. in the church basement. A freewill offering will be accepted. The menu: chicken and noodles, beef and noodles, bean soup and cornbread, mashed potatoes, green beans, slaw, sandwiches, drinks, and lots of pies and cakes.

St. Mary Quarter Raffle

St. Mary School will have its Spring Quarter Raffle on Tuesday, March 15. Dinner will start at 5:30 p.m. and the raffle will begin at 6:30 p.m. Each classroom will provide baskets for the raffle along with products from the vendors and local businesses. If you are a vendor and would like to participate, contact the school at 840-9932. The school is located at 119 E. Walnut St. in Hillsboro.

HDH special personnel meeting

The Highland District Hospital Board of Governors will hold a special meeting in executive session at 7 p.m. Wednesday March 16 at the HDH board room to discuss personnel matters.

SSCC trustees to meet March 17-18

The Southern State Community College Board of Trustees will meet 3:30 p.m. Thursday, March 17, and 9 a.m. Friday, March 18, at the offices of Ohio Association of Community Colleges, 175 S. Third St., Suite 560, Columbus. The board will enter into executive session for the purpose of discussing compensation and employment of public officials (Thursday), and for the purpose of discussing collective bargaining (Friday). Spark St. Patrick’s fundraiser

Spark is teaming up with Three Spoons Diner for a Saint Patrick’s Day fundraiser dinner on March 17. Three Spoons will offer its entire regular menu, but also a special menu of Irish favorites. This will be a bring your own bottle event, but you’ll have to also bring along whatever you require to enjoy your beverage. Spark hosts will be present to welcome and seat you, and everyone will receive a St. Paddy’s Day gift and the opportunity to participate in a 50/50 drawing. The special St. Patrick’s Day menu will include: corned beef and cabbage, Irish lamb stew, shepherd’s pie, bangers and colcannon, Guinness fish and chips, cream of potato soup, Guinness Stout bread, and Irish green velvet layer cake. The special menu will be served from 4-8 p.m.

Cabin Fever Arts Festival

The Appalachian Artisans Guild presents its 13th consecutive Cabin Fever Arts Festival on Saturday, March 19th at the Southern State Community College Patriot Center in Hillsboro. The event will showcase handcrafted traditional folk art and one-of-a-kind fine art by juried artists. Over 60 booths will offer unique craft and art creations, including quilts, jewelry, ceramics, pottery, clothing, paintings, metal and woodworking items, and more. Besides crafts and artwork, there will be live music and food concessions. The doors will be open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The event is free and open to the public.

Lunch With the Easter Bunny

SATH (Supplementary Assistance to the Handicapped) will sponsor Lunch With the Easter Bunny from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, March 19 at the Hopewell Center at 5350 West New Market Rd. The children will have lunch, make an Easter craft, decorate eggs, have their picture taken with the Easter Bunny and at 12:30 there will be an Easter egg hunt. Bring a basket or container for the eggs you find at the hunt. The cost is $8 per child and $5 for adults. OVRDC officers election

The Ohio Valley Regional Development Commission (OVRDC) Full Commission Meeting & Election of Officers will be held Friday, March 18 at the UC Clermont College Student Activity Center, 100 Clermont College Dr., Batavia. Registration will be at 10:30 a.m., the meeting at 11 a.m. and lunch at 12:30 p.m. Keynote speaker will be Dan Neff of the Appalachian Regional Commission. The cost for non-members and/or guests is $20, which must be paid by Thursday, March 17.

‘The Legacy’ at Bainbridge church

Greenfield Presbyterian dinner

The First Presbyterian Church of Greenfield will serve dinner from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday, March 2 in the church dining room. The menu will be ham loaf, scalloped potatoes, green beans, a variety of salads, a variety of cakes and pies, rolls and drinks. The cost of the meal is a suggested donation of $8 per adult. Children 12 and under are free. Carry-out will be available.

Palm Sunday Service

A community Palm Sunday Service will be held at the Greenfield Church of Christ, 955 Jefferson St., on Sunday, March 20 at 6:00 pm. Everyone is invited.

SOESC Governing Board

The Southern Ohio Educational Service Center Governing Board Finance Committee will meet at 2 p.m. Monday, March 21 at the Southern Ohio Educational Service Center, 3321 Airborne Road, Wilmington.

Soup’s On free meal

The Soup’s On free meal will be servied Saturday March, 26 at St. Mary’s Episcopal Church, corner of North High and North streets, Hillsboro. Prayer and Praise is at 4:30 p.m. and dinner is served 5-6 p.m. The menu will be sausage gravy and biscuits, mixed vegetables, assorted desserts and drinks.

New Sons of the American Revolution

A meeting of the newly formed Chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution of Highland, Adams and Brown counties will take place at 10 a.m. Saturday, March 26 at the Eagles Lodge, 126 Gov. Trimble Place, Hillsboro. Any patriot who lives in the area or any male who can prove his lineage back to a Revolutionary patriot is invited. More Than an Easter Egg Hunt

More Than an Easter Egg Hunt will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, March 26 at the Hillsboro Church of the Nazarene. Everyone is welcome. There will be age appropriate egg hunts, coloring, caterpillar-train ride, cookie decorating, lunch and pictures with the Easter Bunny. The egg hunt schedule is: 11:45 a.m. – Age 0-2; Noon – Age 3-5; 12:15 p.m. – Age 6-8; 12:30 p.m. – Age 9-12. For more information contact Tami Combs.

Open Door free meal

The Open Door free meal will be held at the Greenfield United Methodist Church on Saturday, March 26. Serving will be from 4 until 4:30 p.m. The menu is chicken and noodles, mashed potatoes, peas and apple sauce. Everyone is welcome.

Board of DD Provider Fair

On March 31, there will be a Provider Fair at the Highland County Board of Developmental Disabilities, 8919 U.S. Route 50, Hillsboro, from 1-3 p.m. It is open to the public and will focus on services available in Highland County for adults and children with developmental disabilities. There willbe exhibits, snacks and door prizes. An art contest of art by individuals with developmental disabilities will be held with prizes of Walmart gift cards. HCA benefit dinner

The Hillsboro Christian Academy will hold its annual benefit dinner Friday, April 1 at the Hillsboro Bible Baptist Church, 8080 SR 124, Hillsboro. Admission is $5 per person with children 10 and under admitted for $3. Hillsboro Yard Waste Facility

The city of Hillsboro Yard Waste Facility will be open Friday, April 1 from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and Saturday, April 2 from 8 a.m. to noon. Beginning Friday, April 8 , the facility will be open every Friday from noon to 3:30 p.m. and the first Saturday of each month from 8 a.m. to noon. The site is located on Selph Road, 0.35 miles from U.S. Route 62 North. The rules of the Yard Waste Facility are as follows: You must present a valid driver’s license at the gate, only yard waste will be accepted, only yard waste from city properties will be accepted.

‘The Little Mermaid’ at PVHS
